Respect the People You Serve, Tinubu Tells Police Officers”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a strong directive to officers of the Nigeria Police Force, warning them against the intimidation and abuse of citizens. He emphasized that the power entrusted to them must be used solely for the protection and service of the public.

The President delivered this message on Wednesday night during the 2nd Annual IGP’s Award and Commendation Ceremony held in Abuja. Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu called on officers to uphold the highest standards of accountability, professionalism, and respect for human rights.

> “Be reminded that the power you wield is not for intimidation but for protection. It is not for abuse but for service,” he said. “You must be guided by the highest standards of accountability and professionalism. Uphold the rule of law, protect the rights of every citizen, and reject all forms of misconduct and corruption.”

President Tinubu assured that the Federal Government remains committed to improving the Nigeria Police Force through strategic investments in modern policing tools, technology, training, and welfare.

> “This administration remains steadfast in its commitment to transforming the Nigeria Police Force. We understand that modern policing demands modern tools, continuous training, intelligence-led strategies, and community partnerships,” he stated.

Addressing police personnel, the President encouraged all ranks to uphold the trust placed in them by the Nigerian people. He stressed that effective policing hinges on integrity and community confidence.

Celebrating the recipients of the evening’s commendation awards, Tinubu praised their dedication and urged them to serve as role models within the Force.

> “To our award recipients tonight, I congratulate you warmly. You have made the nation proud,” he said. “Let this recognition spur you to greater heights. Let your example inspire others to emulate your discipline, hard work, professionalism, and integrity.”
