1. Attempts by yet-to-be-identified person to carry improvised explosive devices, IED, into Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory and cause havoc, on Monday, failed as vigilant military police and intelligence personnel prevented the carrier from entering the facility. Consequently, the IED exploded as the military personnel who were suspicious of the load the carrier was carrying directed him to move away from the military checkpoint far off, close to the bridge bypass.

2. Seven persons have been killed in a lone accident involving a truck laden with cement along Katsina-Ala-Zaki Biam Road. The accident, which occurred, weekend, left some other occupants of the truck with injuries.

3. The National Caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party on Monday concluded without a resolution with the Governors’ Forum, the Board of Trustees leadership, and the peace committee headed by former Senate President Bukola Saraki set to meet on Tuesday (today) to decide the way forward for the stalled National Executive Committee meeting.

4. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned three Lagos bankers and four accomplices before the Federal High Court in Lagos, over their alleged involvement in an N8.5bn fraud scheme. They were arraigned alongside Hannah Okunlola Adesokan, Hamza Zakariya, Achionu Ubaku, and Sunday Osademe on eight counts bordering on conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence.

5. Following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Monday approved 14 days for all defaulters of ground rent to pay their rent. A statement by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, the Director of Land Administration in the FCT, said owners of properties who defaulted will pay the sum of N5 million as penalty in addition to the ground rent owed.

6. The police command in Benue has confirmed the killing of its personnel and three others in Gwer West Local Government of the state by suspected armed herdsmen. The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene told newsmen on Monday in Makurdi that the attack took place in Aondona Village in Gwer West Local Government.

7. A Nigerian national identified simply as Babylon has been shot dead during a birthday celebration in Laguna, Philippines. It was learnt that the incident occurred in the wee hours of Wednesday. A source privy to the incident but who preferred anonymity due to the circumstances surrounding it said on Monday that the party was hosted by one Obinna.

8. A former Senator in Plateau State, I. D. Gyang, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, citing the party’s deviation from democratic principles and lack of a people-centric approach. Gyang, who represented Plateau North Senatorial District in the 9th Assembly, made his decision known on Monday in a letter he addressed to the chairman of the PDP in his Rafau Ward, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

9. Angry youths in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State have gone berserk as they set ablaze part of the Rano Divisional police station over alleged brutality on one of their own, Abdullahi Musa. The police in a statement, said the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, was killed during the attack.

10. President Bola Tinubu will on Saturday, May 31, inaugurate Section I of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of his working visit to Lagos, the Presidency said on Monday. The highway will be inaugurated alongside other key developments including the Lekki Deep Sea Port Tax Credit Concrete Road, the flag-off of Section II of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the 7th Axial Road.
