Social media activist VeryDarkMan tells critics he was invited to share firsthand accounts of insecurity, not to teach law.

ABUJA —Social media activist Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has responded to criticism over his invitation to speak at the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference.

The conference, which is being held from August 21 to 28, has drawn lawyers and other prominent figures for discussions on Nigeria’s legal system and broader national issues.

Addressing the issue on Tuesday in Port Harcourt, he said he was not there to teach lawyers but to share personal experiences of violence and insecurity.

There has been a lot of debate about why I was invited to this NBA conference. I’m not here to teach you people law; I’m here to share experience,” VDM said during the plenary session.

He noted that the topic, which he referred to as “Unknown Known Gunmen,” went beyond courtroom procedure because insecurity has affected members of the legal profession, including judges.

“This is not a topic of ‘may I, my lord’ because your lords are being kidnapped,” he stated.

VDM cited the reported abduction of a judge traveling from Sokoto who was kidnapped in Kebbi on July 26 and held for about a week before release.

He also criticized the media for what he described as lazy coverage of violent attacks and their aftermath.

VeryDarkMan said his perspective was shaped by firsthand experiences at scenes of violence.

“I was the first respondent at Yelwata. I was also the first respondent when some women were killed some time ago,” he said.

He recalled witnessing the aftermath of attacks and explosions, including a Sallah Day bombing in Borno and incidents involving the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and a post office.

“I have seen blood and seen people burnt alive,” VDM added.

On the Yelwata incident, he described it as a retaliatory attack following the killing of a Fulani boy.

He maintained that the invitation allowed him to bring experiences from outside the courtroom into the discussion on insecurity.

VeryDarkMan’s appearance continues to generate debate about the role of non-lawyers in formal legal forums.

The NBA conference plenary on insecurity proceeds with contributions from security officials and legal practitioners.

VeryDarkMan Raises Fresh Alarm Over Labs for Mohbad’s Son Liam’s DNA Test

VeryDarkMan has raised fresh concerns over the laboratories reportedly selected for the court-ordered DNA paternity test involving Liam, the son of late Nigerian singer Mohbad.

The controversial social media activist alleged that two of the three laboratories chosen for the DNA process may not be equipped to conduct the specific tissue-based testing required because Mohbad’s body had been embalmed for more than two years.

According to VeryDarkMan, the court had directed the parties involved to provide laboratory options, with three facilities eventually selected: DNA Diagnostics Center in Fairfield, Ohio, Alpha BioLab in Warrington, United Kingdom, and Advanced IS Pathology Laboratory Limited in London.

He claimed that a member of Mohbad’s father’s team contacted the two laboratories that were not submitted by his side to verify whether they could carry out the required testing before any samples were collected.

VeryDarkMan said Alpha BioLab responded to the inquiry, stating:

«”Unfortunately we cannot assist as the body has already been embalmed.”»

He further claimed that Advanced IS Pathology Laboratory Limited responded that it does not provide such services.

The development reportedly left VeryDarkMan questioning how the laboratories were selected and whether the DNA testing process had been adequately verified.

VeryDarkMan speaks on Mohbad’s DNA test

Explaining the importance of the test, VeryDarkMan said a conventional DNA swab would not be suitable because of the condition of Mohbad’s remains. He noted that a tissue-based test could involve biological materials such as bone, skin or teeth.

The activist also referenced a statement allegedly made by Mohbad during an argument, which was reportedly mentioned by the late singer’s friend, Prime Boy, during the coroner’s inquest.

«”I only moved closer to you once and I don’t even know if this baby is mine.”»

VeryDarkMan argued that the conflicting claims surrounding Liam’s paternity make an independently verified DNA test necessary.

He also referred to an alleged private DNA test whose result was reportedly inconclusive, although the details have not been publicly established by all parties involved.

“This DNA must be done,” VeryDarkMan said, stressing the need for the paternity question to be resolved through a credible testing process.

The latest development adds another layer to the long-running controversy surrounding Liam’s paternity and the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. The claims about the laboratories and the testing process remain allegations attributed to VeryDarkMan and should be treated as such pending independent verification or an official statement from the relevant parties.

VDM unviels result of paternity DNA test for late singer Mohbad’s son

Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has raised several concerns and allegations regarding the stalled paternity DNA test for late singer Mohbad’s son, Liam. Crucially, VDM claims that the court-ordered process faces manipulation and major logistical deadlocks because the laboratories selected by Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, and court officials are allegedly incapable of performing the specific tests required.
Inability to Conduct Tissue-Based DNA Testing

* The Embalming Issue: VDM highlighted that Mohbad’s remains have been embalmed for a prolonged period, meaning standard blood or body fluid samples cannot be used for a conventional DNA test.
* Need for Tissue Samples: He explained that the test requires an advanced tissue-based or post-mortem procedure using Mohbad’s teeth or bone fragments.
* Laboratory Rejections: VDM and Mohbad’s family representatives alleged that when they investigated, they discovered the laboratories submitted by Wunmi and the court welfare officer either did not possess the capability to perform post-mortem testing on embalmed tissue or had flatly declined to do so.
* Accusations of False Results: He publicly questioned what kind of results these designated facilities would end up presenting to the court if they do not actually perform the required tissue testing, implying potential foul play.
*

Allegations Involving Wunmi and Iyabo Ojo

* Leaked Messages: VDM reignited the controversy by referencing private messages allegedly sent by actress Iyabo Ojo to Wunmi. He claimed these messages showed Ojo encouraging Wunmi to quietly conduct a separate DNA test.
* Royalty and Identity Disputes: Beyond the genetic test itself, VDM claimed that Mohbad’s family lawyer uncovered legal filings where Wunmi was trying to secure Mohbad’s music royalties. He alleged that the family is seeking to freeze these allocations until Liam’s biological paternity is officially verified by the court.
