The Benue State Government has declared Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a public holiday in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s official visit to the state.
According to Alphanewsng, the President is cutting short his schedule to undertake a one-day condolence visit to Benue, following a series of violent attacks that have tragically claimed numerous lives.
In an official statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Serumun Deborah Aber, the holiday aims to give residents an opportunity to turn out en masse and warmly receive the President and his delegation. The visit is seen as both significant and symbolic, reflecting the federal government’s concern over the recent unrest.
However, the state government has clarified that the public holiday does not apply to essential service providers, including medical personnel, security agencies, and banking institutions, who are expected to continue with their duties uninterrupted.
Citizens across the state have been encouraged to come out in large numbers to show support and solidarity during this high-profile visit.
