Football journalist, Simon Phillips, has made a bold claim on the future of Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz amid interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.
Phillips stated that Luiz is likely to join Arsenal rather than Chelsea next year.
Luiz has entered the final year of his contract at Villa Park.
The 24-year-old could see out his contract to become a free agent next summer.
The former Manchester City star was subject to three bids from Mikel Arteta’s side on transfer deadline day this summer, as reported by talkSPORT.
The Gunners initially made a £20 million bid followed by an improved offer of £23 million and £25 million, respectively.
However, Aston Villa rejected all advances from the Gunners and managed to retain the Brazilian.
Phillips, meanwhile, has claimed that Chelsea could be interested in Luiz next summer if he becomes available on a free transfer.
“The situation there if he does become a free agent, Chelsea will probably have a look at it. But I think he will end up joining Arsenal,” Phillips was quoted by Give Me Sport as saying.
