Former Manchester United midfielder, Nemanja Matic has sympathized with captain Harry Maguire, saying what people are doing to the England centre-back is a ‘disaster’.
Matic, who now plays for AS Roma, insisted that people ‘who don’t have their own lives’ are targeting Maguire on social media.
Maguire, who has lost his place in defence under Man United manager, Erik ten Hag this season, was called up by England coach, Gareth Southgate and featured in the Three Lions’ UEFA Nations League 1-0 defeat to Italy last Friday.
A group of England fans booed Maguire, and some have proceeded to abuse him on social media.
However, Matic has now hit out at the perpetrators, having previously spent three seasons at Old Trafford with Maguire.
“What people are doing to him [Maguire], it is a disaster,” Matic told The Times.
“Everything has to have limits, and some of these people writing on social media, they don’t have their own lives, so they just have to write bad things about someone else.”
