EPL: Shocking, ruined the game – Paul Scholes blames one man for Arsenal’s defeat to United

Paul Scholes has said that Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta ruined their chances of getting a result at Manchester United with his terrible second half substitutions.

The former Red Devils midfielder blamed the 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford, which ended Arsenal’s 100% start to the season, on Arteta.

The Gunners arrived at Old Trafford riding on the back of five straight Premier League wins and loads of confident mood, having enjoyed a flawless start to the new season..

Arteta shockingly withdrew Martin Odegaard, Sambi Lokonga and Oleksandr Zinchenko when the Gunners were still 2-1 down and brought on Fabio Vieira, Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah.

And within seconds of their introduction, Rashford effectively put the contest to bed with another breakaway goal.

“I thought his subs were shocking,” Scholes said on Premier League Production afterwards.

“I thought they were terrible. I thought they ruined the game for him.

“I thought they were going great. He didn’t need to change anything. Jesus, they all looked dangerous, Martinelli looked dangerous, I thought Saka looked dangerous. The substitutions seemed to stop the momentum of the game really.”
