Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Dr. Moses Paul Ogidi, a chieftain of the Labour Party, has insisted that Nigeria has been driven in the opposite direction by greedy individuals.
Ogidi stated this while speaking at an event tagged ‘YellOut 4 Good Governance in Nigeria’ on Friday in Abuja.
According to him, politics must be about people and how to make life easier and richer.
Ogidi, who is the Convener/Coordinator of the group, said, “Politics must be about people and how to make life easier and richer. It must recognize the stakeholding of the people and function in ways that enable the attainment of individual and collective dreams.
“Nigeria has unfortunately been driven in the opposite direction by individuals and systems who, through greed, nepotism, incompetence, have overseen the impoverishment of the country with over 63% of Nigerians declared as multidimensionally poor in 2022, according to the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics.
“These ones have sown tribalism, religious intolerance, violence, bigotry in the sands of our nationhood, turning poor, vulnerable Nigerians against each other and the state, weaponizing poverty in a cycle of frustration.”
He added, “The stories of victims have been most unfortunate over the years with names flowing from Chibok, Dapchi, Buni Yadi, Barkin Ladi, Zango Kataf, Agatu, Mubi, Nyanya and a host of other communities touched by the hands of terrorists. These are crimes by young people, many deceived by the lies of a rotten political system.”
