Four suspected kidnappers involved in the killing of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Segun Ayebulu, have been arrested in Ekiti State.
The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, September 13, at Irele Ekiti by local hunters and Ajoni community vigilante group, code-named Operation Eradicating Bandits at the Borders of Rural Ajoni Communities (Operation EBBORAC).
Late Ayebulu was travelling with three of his relatives along the Oke-Ako/Irele Road when they were ambushed by gunmen on September 3.
He was said to be on his way to his hometown in Ogbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, when the incident happened.
The gunmen killed Ayebulu, abducted his relatives including his son and only released them after collecting N5 million as ransom.
The Chairman, Ajoni LCDA, Michael Ogungbemi, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects had confessed they were responsible for the killing of the NSCDC officer and the kidnap of the three relatives.
“The hunters and our LCDA local security outfit have apprehended the killers and kidnappers. They caught them and the people confessed. One of the three kidnapped victims identified them as their kidnappers,” he said.
“I have informed the police at the state command, Ado Ekiti and the division at Ikole Ekiti to deploy their men and vehicle to take them. I have also informed Amotekun in Ado Ekiti and around here. Two locally-fabricated barrels and a revolver were found on them.” he added.
The Commander, Ekiti State Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen Joe Komolafe (retd.), who also confirmed the arrest, said, “As I speak, the police, in conjunction with our men, have taken the four suspects and they are on their way to Ado Ekiti.”
