The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has removed illegal structures on road corridors and cashew plantations within Apo Resettlement in Abuja.
The Department of Development Control officials and security personnel stormed the area with bulldozers on Sunday.
The raid affected hundreds of artisans, food vendors, and petty traders whose structures encroached on roads.
The cashew plantations near Urban Shelter and Angwan Tiv were marked for demolition in 2021.
FCTA Director, Murktar Galadima said the government’s actions, targeted at shanties and other structures constituting infractions, followed due process.
Galadima recalled that the authority issued notices ahead of the demolition, NAN reports.
“We are on our weekly clean-up exercise to clear shanties and other illegal structures in the city.
”From credible intelligence, what was happening was beyond eatery…sometimes it goes into criminality”, he said.
