Facts have emerged on why the 17 governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party visited the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt on Tuesday night.
They claimed that they had visited the governor as part of their contribution to the reconciliatory moves initiated by the party’s leadership to end the internal crisis in the main opposition PDP.
Aside from looking for a solution to the crisis plaguing the party, the governorship hopefuls said they are also worried about their chances to win the forthcoming election in their respective states.
ALPHA NEWS NG learnt that the meeting between the 17 governorship candidates and Wike which held behind closed doors in the governor’s country home in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area spanned into late night
It was learnt that Wike had insisted that they were not in any position to resolve the crisis and therefore referred them back to the National Working Committee of the party.
But the PDP governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isa Muhammed, who spoke on behalf of other candidates, said they decided to visit Wike, having previously heard from the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
While describing their deliberation with Wike as fruitful, Muhammed said they would present all the issues to the NWC to decide on the matters and possibly come up with a solution.
“The talks were fruitful, open discussions with sincerity and we are home and dry. We discuss issues that border on the situation within the party and internal matter is not something you should look for details.
“We have discussed with the presidential candidate and we are here with our brother and friend and issues that border on what is happening have been sorted out.
“The issues have been resolved as far as I am concerned because we have heard from both sides. And we are going to meet with the National Working Committee to take a decision,” the Kaduna PDP governorship candidate said.
