In the wake of the killings that occurred over the weekend as a result of violence during a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward meeting in Ede town, Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has directed the Osun State Police Command to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
The Governor also condemned the killing of two members of the same family, Abideen Olalekan and his wife Kafayat Olalekan by a police officer over an unresolved argument.
In the statement directing the dissolution of the squad, the Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola had stated that the dissolution was based on the heels of complaints of unprofessional conduct exhibited by men of the squad.
In a statement signed by Ismail Omipidan, his Chief Press Secretary, Oyetola who condoled with the family members of the deceased, described the murder of the couple as unfortunate and painful.
According to the statement, “From the information made available to me, I understand that the late Abideen and Kafayat were brutally killed allegedly by men in uniform who appeared at the scene where they were not meant to be at that material time. The deceased should not have died under such unfortunate and avoidable circumstances.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Olalekan family at this moment of grief. I pray God to grant the departed eternal rest and give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear this huge loss.”
The Governor, while assuring the family members that the perpetrators of the dastardly act would be made to face the full wrath of the law, added that the matter would not be swept under the carpet.
Trouble had started when a serving lawmaker, Kofoworola Babajide, who is the Minority Leader in the Osun Assembly allegedly invited policemen to a PDP ward meeting in the town where Abideen Olalekan was shot.
It was also alleged that his wife, Kafayat Olalekan was also shot on the same day, though at a separate location.
In the aftermath of the double killing, the paternal home of the lawmaker was touched, which resulted in his father missing till date.
