Manchester United are set to face a major transfer blow in their pursuit of a Barcelona midfielder, Frenkie de Jong.
According to Spanish outlet, Cadena Ser, Barcelona have drawn up a ‘plan B’ option if they are unable to sell De Jong in this summer transfer window, amid interest from Man United.
Barcelona will look to sell goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who is on a high salary, instead.
Man United have been targeting De Jong throughout the summer.
A fee has been agreed with Barcelona for the Dutch international to join Man United, but the player is determined to stay at Camp Nou.
Barcelona want to raise funds in order to register their new signings, and De Jong is a player they are hoping to sell.
But if De Jong does not shift from his current stance, the Catalan club have a different plan to sell Ten Stegen.
Ter Stegen’s contract with Barcelona will expire in 2025, but De Jong’s stubbornness could lead to the Blaugrana seeking an exit for the 30-year-old German.
