2023: Senator Akpan, 5,000 other supporters join YPP in Akwa Ibom

A former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Senator representing the Akwa Ibom North East, Bassey Akpan and his over 5000 supporters on Monday joined the Young Progressive Party, YPP in the state.

It could be recalled that Senator Akpan had on July 15, 2023, resigned his membership of the PDP to continue his governorship pursuit in another political party.

The ceremony was held in his hometown Ibiono Ibom Eastern 1 ward.

Akpan, accompanied by his wife, Imaobong, picked membership cards number 3887 and 5006, respectively.

After the duo completed all the party membership registration formalities before the ward chairman, their cards were later presented to them by the state chairman, Pastor Nyenime Andy, on behalf of the party.

While welcoming him and others into the new party, Andy said the YPP has become the fastest growing party in the state with the senator’s entrance.

Responding, the Senator declared himself a vessel in the hand of God to bring positive change to Akwa Ibom State.

He said though some persons boast in their financial powers, they can never buy the conscience and rights of the people even as he commended the party chairman, pastor Andy for rejecting all financial inducements from dubious elements to do wrong.

“Today, a new Akwa Ibom births. Akwa Ibom for you and Akwa Ibom for me. Akwa Ibom where there will be justice for all.

“2023 will be about character, competence and capacity, and I promise not to let you people down.”

He pledged that he and his teeming supporters were joining the party to help build and improve the foundation so that it can form the next government of Akwa Ibom State.
