Ogun declares Tuesday work-free for PVC registration

Osun 2022: 1,479,595 PVC collected as INEC extends deadline

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said out of 1,955,657 registered voters in Osun State, 1,479,595 Permanent Voters’ Cards have been collected as of Sunday.

This is as the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba said 21,000 police personnel will be deployed for the election.

This was disclosed during an election stakeholders meeting held in Osogbo on Tuesday for the Osun gubernatorial poll coming on Saturday.

He said the figure is approximately 76 percent of the registered voters.

Prof Yakubu said the INEC has extended the last date for the collection of PVCs to Thursday 14, 24 hours before the election.

The police boss said 21,000 police personnel will be deployed for the election, to adequately protect both human and materials during and after the election.

The Inspector-General in his words promised that police, “will leave no stone unturned to ensure a free fair credible election in Osun state.”

Also speaking at the event, the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II appealed to both electorate and political actors to follow the election guidelines and be peaceful in their conduct during the Election.

Meanwhile, earlier, the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Abdulganiy Raji hinted that sensitive election materials would arrive in Osun State on Tuesday while non-sensitive materials were already batched to Polling Unit Level and ready to be conveyed to the Registration Area Centres (RACs).

Among other candidates who were present and represented at the stakeholders’ meeting, are the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Benedict Alabi and Governor Gboyega Oyetola of All Progressives Congress (APC), Ademola Adeleke.
