Gunmen on Sunday stormed Igama community of Edumoga Ehaje district in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, killed 11 persons, burnt houses in the community.
The gunmen reportedly stormed the community on Sunday, around 4am and opened fire on the residents of the community
Hon, Amina Audu Chairman of Okpokwu LGA, who confirmed the attack, said she had received three corpses at Okpoga, the local government headquarters, while another six corpses were being brought from Igama, one of the affected villages.
She added that the gunmen operated in the affected communities, Unchallenged at 4.00am on Sunday, adding that the victims were all youths while the elderly and women were allowed to escape.
“I’m right now at the Police station in Okpoga awaiting the corpses, soldiers and other security men are here with me,” she said.
SP Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Benue Command, confirmed the incident, adding that the command is yet to receive details from officers who went to the scene
