Presidential primary: Osinbajo, APC Chairman, 5 Govs meet

The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Senator Abudullahi Adamu and five governors of the Progressive Governors’ Forum met behind closed-door on Thursday evening.

The meeting which was held at the VP’s residence in Aso Rock, is coming barely five days before the much awaited primary election scheduled for June 6 and 8.

The agenda for the meeting was unknown as at press time, however, it may not be unconnected to the move for consensus candidate as demanded by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that the president had prior to his official visit to Madrid, Spain, met with the 22 governors of the ruling party, where he emphasized the need for them to support him in the choice of the party’s candidate.

The mindset of the party and the President has been to have a consensus candidate in order to reduce acrimony that may arise in the process of electing the APC presidential candidate during the primary elections.

But a section of the party and its aspirants, including some governors, have opposed the consensus option.

Osinbajo’s meeting with Adamu and the governors is coming after the conclusion of the party’s screening exercise for Presidential aspirants by the John Oyegun-led committee.
