Lagos socialite sentenced to 27 months imprisonment for distributing petrol at party

An Oshodi Special Offences (Mobile) Court has sentenced a Lagos socialite, Ms Ogbulu Chindinma Pearl, to 27 months imprisonment for distributing petrol as souvenir at her party.

Trial Magistrate, Kehinde Ogundare, on Thursday convicted Ms. Ogbulu of a three count charge brought against her by Lagos State.

A statement issued yesterday night by Director, Public Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Mrs Grace Alo, however gave the convict an option of fine in the sum of N1.015 million.

The statement said Ms Ogbulu was ordered to pay a fine of N15,000 or three months imprisonment on the first count, a fine of N500,000  or one year imprisonment on the second count.

She was also ordered to pay a fine of N500,000 or one year imprisonment on the third count.

The convict was arraigned at the Special Offences (Mobile) Court sitting at Oshodi on March 14, 2022 for distributing premium motor spirit as souvenir during her installation party on the March 5, 2022 at Havillah Event Centre, Lagos.

At the hearing of the suit on March 24, 2022, the defendant changed her plea from not guilty to guilty on the 1st count, 2nd count and 3rd count.

The presiding Chief Magistrate Ogundare held that the prosecution successfully proved the charge against the defendant beyond any reasonable doubt and thereby convicted and sentenced her accordingly.
