BREAKING: Youths On The Rampage In Niger State Community To Avenge Killing Of Two Farmers By Suspected Fulani Herder

There is currently tension in Azhi-Kasa community under the Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State following the killing of two farmers by a suspected Fulani herder on Monday.

The victims, who are of the Gbagyi tribe, were hacked to death while working on their farms, SaharaReporters gathered.

Their killing has since led to the eruption of violence in the area with young men from Gbagyi spoiling for war and searching for Fulani herders to take their pound of flesh.

Frightened by the outbreak of violence, residents of the area have been fleeing their homes to avoid being caught in the middle of the crisis.

“There is ‘war’ currently ongoing in Azhi-Kasa community. A Fulani man killed two Gbagyi men on their farmland.
“Gbagyi boys have retaliated and everybody is running away. There is tension everywhere,” a resident of the area said.

The spokesperson for the police in Niger State, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, when contacted confirmed the situation, saying, “Though details of the incident at Azhi-Kasa village are still sketchy, policemen and other security agencies with vigilante members have been mobilised to beef up security in the area.”
